Just returned from a short holiday on the Isle of Wight. It was great to get away for a few days with the family and, unusually for me, I was able to unwind and relax pretty quickly.
I took this photo from Blackgang Chine park. The kids had already done just about every ride and explored the dinosaur, fairytale, wild west and other play areas. There is a lot to keep them entertained.
Erosion along this part of the coast is amazing, several metres are lost every year. You can see a recent rockfall about half way up the right edge of the photo. Panning just a little to the right I could have included the homes, some already empty, which will eventually follow the others to the bottom of the cliff. The park itself seems much smaller than I remember it from when I was a child, maybe that is just my memory playing tricks with me though. :)
We should really go to the IoW more often, it isn't so far away, but taking a car over on the ferry makes it quite expensive. The hovercraft is cheaper, but then you have to rely on public transport. Whilst it is actually pretty good from what I remember, it does limit what you can take with you. But, once you are there, there is plenty to see and do.
Well, the holiday was nice, but have to get back up to speed pretty quickly as I have another wedding this weekend!
